Fasting for a Gastroscopy
6 hour prior to your arrival time, discontinue all solid food and milk. You can continue with clear liquids like water, black coffee, black tea, apple juice or cordial (must be see through).
2 hours no more liquids. Fast. No drinks.
COLONOSCOPY PREPARATION AND FASTING
Five days before your procedure, stop taking iron tablets and avoid pips, seeds and grains. 2 hours no more liquids. Fast. No drinks.
Unless instructed otherwise, continue with all your medications up to and including the day of your procedure.
Bowel prep kits are available from Keilor Private. Please visit us to pick up a prep kit before your procedure.
ONE DAY BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE
- Follow the WHITE DIET instructions
- Dinner must be completed by 6pm.
- After this time, no solid food or milk.
- Continue with clear liquids only.
From 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
- Drink PLENVU DOSE 1 mixture in one hour.
- Follow with 500 ml of clear fluids.
- Continue to drink clear fluids during the evening to remain hydrated.
- Before bedtime, prepare DOSE 2 (using both sachets), and refrigerate.
ON THE DAY OF YOUR PROCEDURE
4 hours prior to arrival time
Combine and drink PLENVU DOSE 2 (using both sachets A & B), over 30 – 60 minutes.
Follow with 500ml of clear fluids.
Continue to drink water to remain hydrated up to 3 hours prior to arrival. After this time, no more fluids.
If you take morning medications, take them now (unless instructed otherwise)

What we need to know before your procedure
Please advise us if you have any serious heart, chest, kidney or other medical problems, are diabetic, taking anticoagulants (blood thinners) or have a latex allergy.
What are the costs?
There are three separate accounts for day procedures at Keilor Private:
- Keilor Private for theatre and accommodation
- The Gastroenterologist performing the gastroscopy procedure or colonoscopy
- The Anaesthetist
Medicare will rebate a portion of the gastroenterologist and anaesthetist fee. If you are privately insured we will process the accounts for you. If you are not privately insured, your hospital out-of-pocket costs are not covered by Medicare. Any known gaps will be provided to you prior to your procedure and our experienced and friendly admissions staff are available at any time to answer your questions.
How long will I be there and what do I wear?
You will be with us for approximately two to three hours and we recommend you wear loose comfortable clothing.
